What Is a Landing Page?

A landing page is a standalone web page designed around a single conversion action — a sign-up, download, purchase, or quote request. Unlike regular website pages, landing pages remove navigation and distractions to keep visitors focused on one goal.

How Landing Pages Affect Website Cost

Landing pages are often built and hosted separately from your main website, which adds to the total cost of your web presence:

  • DIY landing page platform (Unbounce, Leadpages, Instapage): $37–$299/month
  • Embedded within your existing site (using a page builder): $0 extra if you already have WordPress/Squarespace
  • Freelancer-built: $500–$3,000 per page
  • Agency-built with CRO and A/B testing: $3,000–$15,000+

Common Mistakes

Adding navigation links. Every outbound link on a landing page is an exit opportunity. High-converting landing pages remove the main navigation.

Multiple calls to action. One clear CTA outperforms three competing CTAs. Focus every element toward a single action.

Not testing. Landing page performance varies significantly based on headline, CTA wording, and page length. Pages not being tested are leaving conversion improvements on the table.

Using the homepage as a landing page. A homepage has too many goals and too many exit points to function as an effective landing page for paid traffic.

Landing Page Platforms

If you need dedicated landing page infrastructure outside your main website:

  • Unbounce: $99–$249/month — strong A/B testing
  • Leadpages: $37–$74/month — affordable, drag-and-drop
  • Instapage: $199+/month — enterprise-grade personalization
  • Swipe Pages: $29–$89/month — fast AMP-based pages

If you already have a website builder (Squarespace, Wix) or WordPress with Elementor/Divi, you can create effective landing pages without a separate platform.
